This past weekend, we finally got a chance to shoot our good friends Valerie+Jason.  They're our super cool friends that got married this past June in Wisconson.  We were originally going to shoot their Engagement pictures for them but planning a wedding while being 2000 miles away from where you're having it is no easy task.  Needless to say, we couldn't find time to do it.So being that we didn't get to shoot their Engagement images or  even make it to their Wedding (which we were totally bummed about btw), we thought it would be a great idea instead, to shoot them fully decked out, Wedding Dress, Suit and all when they got back.  And are we glad we did =) _mg_7397ab1.jpg Val wore this beautiful vintage looking dress with so much detail...I had to capture it. _mg_7313.jpg Being that we weren't so pressed on time like we would a normal Wedding day, we decided to come decked out ourselves and bring our lighting gear.  My hope for the shoot was to walk away with a shot...or two that looks like something that would be in a Wedding magazine.  Do you think we got it?! _mg_7325-copy.jpg _mg_7358.jpg _mg_7334.jpg Being super exhausted from the day's activities I wasn't planning on editing right away but seriously, I couldn't resist!  After seeing how a few of them turned out I ended staying up till 2am editing everything!!  I can't tell you how excited I was with how everything turned out but seriously, how do you not get a good shot with these guys?! _mg_7417a.jpg Finally, I decided to put together a really quick slideshow of our day.  So enjoy! Val+Jason...thanks so much for being the cool cats that you are!  We hope you like your images as much as we do!  =)  Oh and Jason...did I tell you that I'm interested in buying your bike?! =) haha *****CLICK HERE FOR VAL+JASON'S DAY AFTER SESSION***** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If we haven't gotten back to you with email...we're playing catch up and we're hoping to get back to everyone today so keep an eye out for it! =) Don't forget!  Our "Great Names Derive from Great Inspiration" contest deadline to submit your entries is October 1st!!

Last month was a really fun month for us because we were able to be part of not just one wedding but two weddings! Both of whom, we consider our family. Our first wedding this past May was a highly anticipated one. Not only were we super excited because Darcy and JJ are one of the coolest people we know (did you see their engagement shoot?! **click here**) but how many people do you know can turn two neighboring homes smack dab in the middle of the desert into a beautifully lit Ceremony/Reception site, with a dance floor bigger than the footprint of my house, with enough food and drinks, caterers and all, to feed over 250 people??!! =) reception_3935.jpg Needless to say, Darcy and JJ, your wedding was one of the most beautiful that we've seen and we're honored that you chose us to document it for you. You don't know this but when you both saw each other for the first time that day, Lauren and I were right there experiencing that moment through you too. It brought us back to the first time we saw each other on our wedding day and we hope that it was as special for you as it was for us. The moments we were able to capture of you two when you first saw each other are exactly why we love what we do as photographers. We hope you love your slideshow as much as we loved putting it together for you. **Click Here for Darcy & JJ's Wedding Day Slideshow** We love you guys and hope to see you soon!

Welcome to our new blog...and as you can probably tell, the launch of our new company name...John Lauren Photography, formally known as Beauty for Ashes Photography!! We're soooo excited to have finally launched the first part of our "New Beginnings" project (this blog) which we first announced back in January of this year. The second part of the project is of course our new website which we're hoping to launch within the next few weeks!! BTW - if you guys have any suggestions on how we can better our blog (i.e. topics to talk about, cool blog features that we can add, etc.) shoot us an email (john@johnlauren.com) or leave us a comment. Without further ado, we dedicate our first post to Cheryll & Earl and their beautiful summer day in November...

Last year our friends from Red5Studios referred us to one of their clients that needed a photographer for their wedding. From the start of our first meeting, you can see how sweet they were to each other and even the shyness of the bride to be. The funny thing was that after going through A TON of shots! =), the same innocence and sweetness that we saw in her showed in almost all our shots.

slideshow_048.jpg

Needless to say we left our meeting pretty excited to have Cheryll + Earl be one of John Lauren Photographys' first weddings of the year.

What started as a gloomy Saturday morning turned into clouds parting and the sun blasting it's rays through, warming us up as the day went on. Can you believe this weather in NOVEMBER??!!! You might ask, "what's that big blue "shark fin" looking thing behind them" Answer: WE HAVE NO IDEA!! haha...but we were definitely glad to have found it.

We got there super duper early to make sure we captured everything we could. Here's one of our favorites of the Bride-to-be getting ready with her dress waiting to be slipped on for the special day.

One of the benefits of shooting in front of a window on a gorgeous sunny day is getting shots like the one below. We love this shot because even though you don't quite make out the details of the expressions on their faces, you still feel a sense of gentleness just by the way they're holding hands and the way they're leaning their heads on each other.

slideshow_063.jpg

One of the reasons why we knew this wedding was going to be great was because when we asked, where'd they'd like to do their shoot, the first thing they said was "whatever we do, please no "beachy" pictures" (haha is that even a word??!!)...perfect!! =) Not that we don't like beach pictures, because we totally do, but we felt the same way with our wedding. If you hadn't had a chance to see our own wedding slideshow, feel free to check it out.

Being that we were in the Long Beach area, the beach could have been very tempting but after doing a little scouting, we found an area that we thought would work just fine...

bridalparty_005.jpg

That last picture is one of my favorite groomsmen pics...gotta love the DO NOT ENTER WRONG WAY sign!! haha

Last but not least, what would be a bunch of teaser pictures without a slideshow?!!

So to Cheryll & Earl...thank you for sharing your special day with us and we hope you love your wedding images as much as we do! =)
